Sponsoring Homebrew

You can support Homebrew through GitHub Sponsors, Patreon or Open Collective. Visit your preferred platform for current tiers, prices and payment options.

Why sponsor Homebrew?

Homebrew helps individuals and organisations install and update the software they depend on every day. If Homebrew saves you or your team time, sponsoring helps sustain the work behind every brew install: maintaining packages, reviewing contributions, fixing bugs and adapting to new macOS and Linux releases. Regular contributions help us plan for recurring costs and support the maintainers who keep the project running.

How we use your contributions

Our public expense records and 2024 spending review show how funding supports:

  • Maintainer stipends: recognising ongoing maintenance work and encouraging contributors to stay involved as they take on more responsibility.
  • Build infrastructure and services: macOS and Linux machines for building and testing packages, hosting, DNS, analytics and development tools.
  • Hardware grants: helping maintainers obtain computers they need to develop and test Homebrew.
  • Meetings and travel: bringing maintainers together for working meetings and the annual general meeting, and helping them represent Homebrew at conferences such as FOSDEM.

These costs support both day-to-day maintenance and improvements to Homebrew’s reliability, security and performance. You can follow our Open Collective updates to see what the project has been working on.

How recognition works

We automatically read sponsorship payments and selected tier benefits from each platform to prepare updates to Homebrew’s README. For tiers that include recognition, we use your account’s display name and, where included, its profile image linked to your profile on that platform. This includes Patreon avatars and Open Collective account images; you do not need a separate GitHub account for recognition. Update your profile on the platform you sponsor through to change these details.

Sponsor updates are prepared daily and appear after a maintainer reviews and merges them. Sponsors with linked logos in the README are also thanked by name at the end of new major and minor release blog posts. These acknowledgements reflect the README when the release is prepared; previous blog posts are not changed when sponsorships end.

Duration and existing sponsorships

Monthly recognition continues while your sponsorship is active and paid. Eligible one-time contributions on GitHub Sponsors and Open Collective receive recognition for 12 months from payment. Open Collective annual contributions also receive 12 months of recognition, even if renewal is cancelled. Patreon recognition follows your current paid membership entitlement, including annual memberships.

We honour the benefits of existing sponsorships when their tiers are retired. Contributions started before 30 October 2026 also retain historical recognition based on their amounts, including one-time gifts for 12 months from payment.

If your recognition is missing or incorrect, contact us through Homebrew’s GitHub discussions.
